Chief Patrick Daley

East Great Plain Fire Department

President 2010

Greetings from the President

New London County Fire Chiefs’ Association was established in 1932, for the purpose of providing mutual aid to neighboring towns and adjacent counties. Times were tough in ’32 as they are now and the need of being able to call on neighboring fire departments and emergency medical services made life a lot easier for the fire departments and EMS.  Seventy-seven years later the need still exists and we still rely on mutual aid. We have gotten more sophisticated over the years with our modern equipment and training techniques, but there will always be a need for mutual aid. The Association continues to grow and we offer a wide cadre of support to member departments in time of need. We coordinate both the CERRIT HazMat Team and the CT Incident Management Team 4. The Association sponsors 2 monetary awards for students in the Fire Technology & Administration program at Three Rivers Community College. The Connecticut Firefighters Association has selected NLCFCA to host their one hundred twenty-seventh annual convention and parade in September 2010.

Our meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month,(except July) at various stations throughout the County, starting at 1930 hrs. Ideas are exchanged, important information is disseminated, and the latest in fire and rescue equipment is exhibited. Each month we strive to have a dynamic and relevant speaker discussing the hot topic of the day. Oh, I almost forgot, each meeting is a dinner meeting, provided by the host department.

If you are a line officer of any type in a New London County fire or EMS agency, you should be a member of the NLCFCA. You may download an application from the website. Submit your application to the Financial Secretary, with a $13.00 application fee (address listed on website).

Enjoy your visit to our website!

Statement of Purpose

"This association is organized for two purposes:

That immediate assistance in personnel and apparatus could be made available to any fire department in New London County, or bordering counties, belonging to the Association at a moments notice without formality and confusion which generally arises in case of large fire or emergency.  This system is to be known as the County Mutual Aid Plan.  This system shall be arranged so that any community, whose fire apparatus, rescue equipment, or fire police is called upon to assist a neighboring community in case of a serious fire or emergency, will have the protection of at least one piece of apparatus from participating departments until its own apparatus has returned to quarters.

The social and instructive side of the Association, whereby we meet at different fire departments that are members of the Association, is for the purpose of exchanging views on various subjects pertaining to fire prevention and suppression.  At this meeting it is the goal of the Association to have programs and/or instruction in fire prevention methods, handling of fire and medical emergencies, fire and arson investigation, fire department management, the exhibition of modern firefighting and rescue equipment, and any other subject deemed beneficial to the members of the Association."

Reminder that May 5, 2010 NLCFCA Meeting is being held at the City of Groton Eastern Point Fire Station 416 Benham Road in Groton.  Chief DeLia has asked members to park on Shennecossett Road (because of minimal space on Benham Road.)

Thanks Chief Main
